Athens - TOP 10 Must see while in town

To explore Athens have always been on my bucket list. I had several trips to greek islands although I never made time to spend in this majestic greek metropolitan city. If you plan your vacation to Greece this summer, make time and explore Athens. Here are some places I recommend to visit while here.


10. Temple of Olympian Zeus

The biggest temple in Greece. Greek tyrant Peisistratos begun to build it, and finally been finished after seven centuries later by roman emperor Hadrian.



9. Street of Plaka and Anafiotika

Streets of Plaka and Anafiotika is the calmest part of the city. Couple of restaurants, fresh flowers and architecture keeping unique character.



8. Marina harbour in Athens

If you love walks by marina enjoying the view of most luxurious yachts after some good lunch at Michelin star restaurants, you definitely have to come and take a walk here.



7. The Archeological Museum of Dion

Museum lovers can enjoy seeing the most important exhibits of Greece. One of them is mask of king Agamemon.

3. Ancient Agora and the Temple of Hephaestus

Historical centre of administration, business, political and social life. Even Socrates was teaching his philosophy.



2. The Ancient Colosseum - The Odeon of Herodes Atticus

Greek theatre structure located on the southwest slope of the Acropolis of Athens. Building was completed in 161 AD and then renovated in 1950. Built by the Greek Herodes Atticus in memory of his Roman wife, Aspasia Annia Regilla. Steep-sloped theatre with a three-story stony front wall and a wooden roof made of expensive cedar of Lebanon timber. In past used as a venue for music concerts with a capacity of 5,000 people. It lasted intact until it was destroyed and left in ruins by the Heruli in 267 AD.



1. Acropolis of Athens

Acropolis is the most important monument of western world, visible from almost each side of the city. Parthenon is the biggest finished temple in Greece.
